Chief Security Officer
Mr. Andrey Kandybko, a national of the Russian Federation, has been reassigned from the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) HQ in Jerusalem as Chief Security Officer (CSO) in September 2020.
From July 2015 to September 2020, he was assigned to the UN in Tajikistan as Security Adviser at UNDSS. Prior to Tajikistan, Mr. Kandybko served with the UNDSS in Kenya, Nairobi as Chief SIOC; earlier as CSO, OSCE Mission to Skopje; Head of Field Office in OSCE Mission to Croatia and Head of Field Station in OSCE Presence in Albania.
Mr. Kandybko started his career with the UN in the Middle East back in 1993 as Operations Officer at the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization HQ in Jerusalem, with several field assignments to UNTSO Observer Group Egypt (OGE) in Sinai and Observer Group Golan in Tiberias (OGG/ODD-T). He also lectured at the St. Petersburg State University and the Moscow State University.
After earning his Advanced University Degree in International Studies and Military Science in 1984 from the Military Institute, Moscow, Mr. Kandybko served with the Ministry of Defense, Russian Federation. He also studied at the Folke Bernadotte Academy in Sweden, the Royal Defense Academy of the UK at Cranfield University, and the Institute of Risk Management in London. He completed the Executive Management Program at the UN Staff College, Torino.
Mr. Kandybko is fluent in Russian, English, and Serbo-Croatian.
