Deputy Chief of Staff 

 

Colonel Hubert Pavlic, an Austrian national, was appointed as UNTSO Deputy Chief of Staff (CoS) on 4 February 2024.

 Colonel Pavlic started his career in the Austrian Army in 1995, serving as infantry platoon leader and company commander. In 2001, he served in his first United Nations mission as platoon leader in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). Later on, he was deployed to Kosovo with the Kosovo Force (KFOR) mission in 2004-2005 and to Bosnia with the European Union Force (EUFOR) mission in 2007. He continued to be actively involved in peace operations as Chief Instructor for Peace Support Operations at the Austrian Centre for Operation Preparation.

 

From 2008 to 2009, Colonel Pavlic worked as United Nations Military Observer (UNMO) and Deputy Team Leader in Observer Group Golan Tiberias (OGG-T) and Observer Group Lebanon (OGL) during his first tour in UNTSO. He then served several years in the Ministry of Defence in the Capability Development Branch. From 2014 to 2018, Colonel Pavlic served as J5 staff officer at the Multinational Joint Headquarters in Ulm, Germany.

In 2018, he returned to the Ministry of Defence for another two years. In 2020, a third tour in the UN followed as Senior Staff Officer Supply at the UNIFIL HQ, where he also served as National Contingent Commander. Colonel Pavlic returned from UNIFIL to the Austrian Ministry of Defence to serve as Senior Staff Officer in the Concept & Capability Development Branch until he returned to UNTSO in 2024.
