Observer Group Lebanon Returns to Patrol Base West in Southern Lebanon

Beirut, Lebanon — January 10, 2025 — UNTSO Observer Group Lebanon (OGL) has restarted its operations after the signature of the ceasefire agreement on 27 November 2024 and has officially returned to Patrol Base West, marking a significant milestone in the resumption of peacekeeping operations in southern Lebanon.

The OGL return to Patrol Base West follows a comprehensive assessment of the security situation and successful coordination with UNIFIL, ensuring a safe environment for peacekeeping efforts. OGL’s presence is a critical component in maintaining stability and prevent isolated incidents from escalating as part of the broader United Nations peacekeeping mission in the region.

“We are committed to our mandate of promoting peace and ensuring compliance with international agreements in southern Lebanon,” said Deputy Chief OGL Lieutenant Commander Roel Verveer, “Our return to Patrol Base West also signifies our resilience and dedication to supporting the UNSC mandates and the populations impacted.”

OGL’s return to the area also underscores its readiness to resume critical monitoring and reporting duties along the Blue Line.
