Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix Visits UNTSO
Jerusalem, January 2025 – United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, visited the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) from 28 to 29 of January as part of his official visit to the Middle East. In Jerusalem, Mr. Lacroix met with senior Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials and IDF representatives. Moreover, he participated in briefings on UNTSO operations and a Mission townhall meeting where he appreciated the commitment of UNTSO personnel, addressed the challenges faced by peacekeepers in the field and the mission’s ongoing efforts to support regional de-escalation. Mr. Lacroix expressed his gratitude for the dedication and professionalism of UNTSO personnel, reaffirming the UN’s commitment to UNTSO's Mandate in these difficult times.
UNTSO remains steadfast in implementing its mandate, contributing to the broader peacekeeping presence in the region. The visit by Mr. Lacroix reaffirmed the importance of UN peace operations in de-escalating tensions in the region and of their unwavering contribution to the UN’s peace efforts.
